ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Wednesday inaugurated a $43-million dollar hospital in Duhok’s Amedi district, which is set to provide services to over 250,000 people in the area.
Amedi district administrator Warshin Sulaiman told The New Region that all medical equipment and supplies, health staff, and doctors have been provided for the Shorash Hetit General Hospital to “immediately serve citizens.”
The hospital is in the Deraluk subdistrict of Amedi. Deraluk is far from Erbil and Duhok, which made it difficult for the people to get adequate healthcare, especially during snowy weather, leading to the hospital’s construction.
“The hospital was built with modern standards and with the highest quality,” Barzani stated. “I congratulate the people of this district on the hospital.”
Deraluk is around 88 kilometers northeast of Duhok city.
"The $43 million facility, established under the Ninth Cabinet, is set to provide essential healthcare services to over 250,000 residents in the region,” read a statement by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in February when construction ended.
It will "significantly improve healthcare accessibility and quality for Amedi and the surrounding areas,” the statement added.
The hospital is built on an area of 43,000 square meters. Meanwhile, the halls and all sections occupy 21,000 square meters of that area, with the remainder designated for greenery and parking spaces.
It consists of various departments, including emergency, physiotherapy, outpatient clinic, laboratory, blood bank, pediatrics, women and maternity, radiology and ultrasound, surgery, pharmacy, dialysis, technical section, wastewater treatment unit, doctors' residence, and administrative and service sections.
The KRG’s ninth cabinet has built 30 new hospitals and 21 research centers so far.
A key objective of the KRG’s ninth cabinet has been to improve the healthcare system in the Kurdistan Region by using cutting-edge medical technologies.
