ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani is set to conduct a multi-day visit to the Kurdistan Region on Monday, meeting with the Region’s top officials, including Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.

A well-informed source from the Iraq Council of Ministers on Friday told The New Region that Sudani will arrive in the Kurdistan Region’s capital on Monday for meetings with the Kurdish premier and other top officials regarding outstanding Erbil-Baghdad issues.

The Iraqi prime minister is also expected to hold meetings with representatives of Kurdish political parties during his trip, and visit Duhok on Tuesday ahead of his participation in The Middle East Peace & Security (MEPS) Forum at the American University of Kurdistan.

The visit comes days after Sudani’s Reconstruction and Development Alliance scored the highest number of votes in Iraq’s parliamentary elections. The Shiite coalition is projected to secure 46 seats in the legislature.

After the resolution of the long-standing dispute between over oil exports, Erbil and Baghdad’s disagreements over the issue of sharing domestic revenues remain the main point of contention between the two sides, with a temporary settlement reached in the interim that would see Erbil send Baghdad 120 billion dinar as the federal treasury’s share of the Kurdistan Region’s domestic revenues until a final resolution is reached.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has repeatedly stated that Erbil demands its full share of the federal budget from Baghdad come 2026.
