The Reconstruction and Development Alliance, led by Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, said it remains a major part of the Coordination Framework and that Sudani has become one of its most influential leaders after winning the highest number of seats in the recent elections.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - The Reconstruction and Development Alliance, led by Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, said Saturday it remains a core part of the Coordination Framework, stressing that Sudani has become one of the bloc’s “most influential leaders” after securing the highest number of parliamentary seats in the recent elections.

Mohammed al-Aqili, a senior figure in the coalition, told The New Region that the bloc’s position inside Iraq’s political system has grown stronger following its election gains.

“The Reconstruction and Development Alliance is a central and essential part of the Coordination Framework, and its role has become more solid after obtaining the highest number of seats,” Aqili said.

He added that the results gave Sudani “clear political weight” within the Coordination Framework and made him one of its main decision-makers. “This reality cannot be ignored or overlooked at any stage of decision-making,” he said.

According to Aqili, the coalition will continue working in partnership and coordination with other Framework parties. He said the next phase demands understanding between all sides and setting priorities that support the country’s stability and the cohesion of the political system.

Aqili said the coalition will not accept any attempts to sideline or reduce its role, noting it has a wide popular base and strong parliamentary presence.

Meanwhile, Moeen al-Kadhimi, a senior official within the Coordination Framework, said formal consultations on selecting the next prime minister “have not officially begun yet.” He said the process needs more time to allow for wider political dialogue within the Shiite camp.

Kadhimi told The New Region that the Framework is currently preparing a comprehensive negotiating environment that brings together all parties without exception.

The goal, he said, is to reach a shared vision on the standards for choosing a candidate and ensure the process is based on political consensus and national responsibility.

He said the coming period will include intensive meetings to exchange views on the shape of the next government and on selecting a figure capable of managing current challenges, maintaining political stability and meeting citizens’ expectations.

Kadhimi said the Coordination Framework prefers to move toward a final decision only after completing all necessary discussions, ensuring that the new government enjoys wide acceptance among political forces.
