ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Monday reopened the Kurdistan House at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, expressing hope that the initiative would attract international investors to the Region.
“This is an opportunity for the people of Kurdistan to participate, for the advancement of our connections – politically or economically,” Barzani said in a speech.
He further expressed hope that the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) participation in WEF and initiatives such as the Kurdistan House would “open more doors for Kurdistan for international investors.”

Barzani is leading a high-level KRG delegation to WEF, which includes 20 domestic investors from different sectors, including housing, energy, technology, internet networks, industry, agriculture, tourism, transportation, and logistics.
The Kurdistan Region has participated in the forum for years and had its Kurdistan House opened two years ago. During the four-day conference, a large number of high-level meetings will be held at the House.
"I hope that we can have important and productive meetings with the heads of state around the world in the coming days," Barzani affirmed.
Hemin Lihony, advisor to Barzani and head of the Initiatives and Strategic Communications office, lauded the KRG’s participation in WEF this time around, saying “national investors” are a part of the delegation.
“Supporting the private sector is a key role of the Prime Minister,” Lihony said.
Mohammed Shukri, head of the KRG’s Board of Investment, hoped that the presence of investors with the KRG delegation could “support the private sector” and promote significant international investment in the Region.
This year’s event, running from January 19 until 23, will see around 3,000 leaders and senior officials, 65 heads of state and premiers, and nearly 850 company heads participate.
“World leaders from government, business, civil society, and academia will convene in Davos to engage in forward-looking discussions to address global issues and set priorities,” the forum’s website read.
