The United States on Monday joined several Arab states in condemning Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting the region, including the Kurdistan Region.

DUBAI, UAE - The United States and several Arab states on Monday issued a joint statement condemning Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting countries in the region, including the Kurdistan Region, and reiterated their right to self-defense.

The statement, issued jointly by the US, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), strongly condemned “the reckless and indiscriminate Iranian missile and drone attacks against sovereign territories in the region.”

The Iranian attacks have targeted Bahrain, Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, according to the statement.

“These unjustified strikes targeted sovereign territories, endangered civilians, and caused damage to civilian infrastructure,” said the signatories, adding that “Iran's actions represent a dangerous escalation that violates the sovereignty of several countries and threatens regional stability.“

The countries said they stand united in defending their citizens and territories and reaffirmed their right to self-defense.

They also highlighted what they described as effective coordination in air and missile defense systems, saying it helped prevent greater casualties and destruction.

The recent escalation has seen Iran and its proxies launch retaliatory strikes on several key US military sites and diplomatic facilities across the region.

Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters on Monday said they targeted the headquarters of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, where explosions and smoke were reported, and struck air bases in Kuwait that host US forces.

The group further claimed that at least one US base in Kuwait was put out of service as a result of the strikes. Smoke was also seen near the US Embassy compound in Kuwait City, prompting security alerts.

In Iraq and Kurdistan Region, Iran-linked groups claimed drone attacks on the US base in Erbil, and also targeted US positions around Baghdad’s international airport.

The UAE and other Gulf states have reported Iranian missiles and drones in their airspace, including strikes near major airports.

Iranian commanders framed the operations as retaliation for US and Israel’s attacks, asserting that any US bases in the region were legitimate targets.
