ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – The Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI), an umbrella of pro-Iran militias, on Friday announced offering “substantial” financial rewards to anyone, Iraqi or foreigner, who provides accurate information on the whereabouts of US troops in the country.
In a statement, the group claimed that their attacks on American bases and interests have led to a reduction in the US’ “security options,” forcing US military and intelligence personnel in Iraq and the region to take shelter in civilian locations “that they believe are safer.”
Accordingly, the IRI announced it will offer a 150 million dinar reward (around $115,000), to whoever provides “accurate preemptive information that directly leads to the execution of arrest operations, or the field neutralization, of high-ranking officials in the US military or leading elements in intelligence agencies.”
“The reward includes all Iraqis who provide information, as well as foreign residents within the country,” the statement added, noting that the group will ensure the confidentiality of the source of information.
US military bases across the Middle East have repeatedly come under attack by Iran and Iran-aligned forces, with the American presence at Erbil International Airport having been incessantly targeted since the beginning of hostilities.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced Friday that six US military personnel were killed after a refueling aircraft crashed in western Iraq the day prior. Despite the US insisting that “the loss of the aircraft was not due to hostile fire,” the IRI claimed responsibility for downing the plane.
The incident brings the total number of confirmed US military casualties since the commencement of its military campaign against Iran in late February to 13.
The US has in turn targeted bases of Iran-aligned Iraqi militias, killing at least 40 fighters and wounding dozens of others.
