“These terrorist acts only strengthen its resolve and determination to pursue the perpetrators and those responsible until they are apprehended and brought to justice,” said the Iraqi National Intelligence Service.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – The Iraqi National Intelligence Service said its headquarters in Baghdad was hit by a drone strike carried out by “outlaw elements” on Saturday that killed an intelligence officer, coming amid regional tensions tied to the US-Israeli war with Iran and the activities of its allied militias in Iraq.

Iraq’s security media center on Saturday said, "At 10:15 AM today, a drone crashed at the headquarters of the Iraqi National Intelligence Service in the Mansour district," Iraqi state media reported.

Mansour, an upscale district in western Baghdad, is home to embassies, government offices, and commercial areas and lies west of the Tigris River near Baghdad International Airport.

AFP later cited an anonymous security official as saying the attack targeted a telecommunications building.

The Iraqi Intelligence Service said its headquarters in Baghdad was “subjected to a terrorist attack carried out by outlaw elements,” adding that the attack killed “an officer” while he was performing his duties.

“These terrorist acts only strengthen its resolve and determination to pursue the perpetrators and those responsible until they are apprehended and brought to justice,” the intelligence service said.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the Saturday morning attacks.

Earlier on late Friday night into early Saturday, the US diplomatic support center in central Baghdad came under a drone attack, with fires reported inside the facility.

Pro-Iran Iraqi armed groups later claimed responsibility and said they had carried out multiple operations against US targets over the past 24 hours.

The activities of pro-Iran factions, many of whom are officially under the auspices of the Iraqi state as part of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), in targeting US and Western bases have drawn condemnation from the Kurdistan Region, which has been repeatedly targeted.

The US and Israel have targeted PMF positions since the beginning of the war, with Badr Organization Secretary-General Hadi al-Amiri on Thursday saying that more than 60 PMF fighters have been killed and over 100 others wounded in attacks so far.
