"Immediately after the power plants and infrastructure in our country are targeted, the critical infrastructure, energy infrastructure, and oil facilities throughout the region will be considered legitimate targets and will be destroyed in an irreversible manner," said  Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned Sunday that any attack on Iran’s power plants or infrastructure would make energy and oil facilities across the region “legitimate targets,” coming after US President Donald Trump threatened to "obliterate" Iranian power plants.

"If Iran doesn’t FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 HOURS from this exact point in time, the United States of America will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST!" Trump said on his Truth Social platform on Saturday.

"Immediately after the power plants and infrastructure in our country are targeted, the critical infrastructure, energy infrastructure, and oil facilities throughout the region will be considered legitimate targets and will be destroyed in an irreversible manner," Ghalibaf wrote on X.

"The price of oil will remain high for a long time," he warned, coming after the US-Israeli military offensive against Iran has seen global oil prices skyrocket, leading Washington to temporarily lift sanctions on Iranian oil stranded at sea in a bid to lower energy costs.

Iran's restricting of the Strait of Hormuz has been a key nuisance for Washington, with Trump having called on the international community to back escorts for oil tankers transiting the strategic waterway.

The warning was echoed by Iran’s military leadership, with Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters saying that if the United States targets Iran’s fuel and energy infrastructure, “all energy infrastructure, information technology systems, and desalination facilities” belonging to the US would be targeted, according to state broadcaster reports.

"If the United States' threats regarding Iran's power plants are carried out... the Strait of Hormuz will be completely closed, and it will not be reopened until our destroyed power plants are rebuilt," the headquarters said in another statement.

Senior officials also signaled wider regional consequences. First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref said that attacking Iran’s infrastructure could lead to “a widespread blackout in the region,” state media reported.

Aref stressed that Tehran views such actions as within its right to self-defense, warning that “continuing on this path will make those threatening bear the responsibility for the consequences.”
