One of the two fatalaties was the commander of the PMF's 53rd Brigade in Nineveh province, Abu Taha al-Turkmani.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) announced Wednesday that two of its personnel, including a provincial commander, were killed in a "treacherous Zionist-American attack" in Nineveh's Tal Afar.

The PMF, officially under the auspices of the Iraqi state, contain pro-Iran factions that have repeatedly targeted US interests in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq since the beginning of a US-Israeli military campaign against Iran in late February.

One of the two fatalaties was the commander of the PMF's 53rd Brigade in Nineveh province, Abu Taha al-Turkmani, with another four individuals being wounded in the attack.

In its statement, the PMF said "that these treacherous and cowardly attacks will not deter it from continuing the path of sacrifice, redemption, and giving, in service to our beloved homeland and dear people."

Kurdistan Region authorities have repeatedly called on Baghdad to rein in Iran-affiliated factions within their ranks amid incessant attacks on the Region.

On Wednesday, warehouses belonging to the UK-based Castrol Oils were targeted by three drones.

The US, which, alongside Israel, has extensively targeted PMF components since the beginning of the war, has issued repeated warnings to its citizens to quit Iraq as soon as possible amid the deteriorated security environment.

American journalist Shelly Kittleson was kidnapped in Baghdad on Tuesday evening, reportedly by an individual associated with the pro-Iran Kataib Hezbollah, according to the US State Department.

On Monday, Iraq’s ruling Shiite Coordination Framework said that more than 100 members of Iraqi security and military forces have been killed since the start of the war.

Reports have also emerged of Iraqi militiamen entering Iran, with footage circulating online showing what appear to be PMF convoys, made up of dozens of pick-up trucks, which Tehran-affiliated media has described as the “humanitarian aid convoys” from Iraq.
