SHARJAH, UAE - Iraq’s Civil Aviation Authority on Friday said it has extended the closure of the country’s airspace to all incoming, outgoing, and transit flights for another week as a precautionary measure.
The authority said in a statement that the closure will remain in effect from 12 pm on Friday, April 3, until 12 pm on Friday, April 10.
The decision was taken based on a continued assessment of the security situation and developments in the region, the statement said, adding that the measure remains temporary and will be reviewed in line with any new updates.
Iraq has kept its airspace largely closed since late February, when the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran, triggering wider regional tensions.
Through the month of March, authorities kept on extending the closure.
The period also saw a rise in drone attacks around Baghdad International Airport, including strikes targeting areas near the former Camp Victory and nearby diplomatic facilities.
Pro-Iran armed groups claimed responsibility for several of the operations, saying they had carried out multiple attacks against US-linked targets, as part of a broader escalation tied to the conflict with Iran.
