The statement comes after the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it carried out “self-defense strikes” in Iran’s southern regions in the early hours of the day, despite the two warring sides reporting significant progress in their discussions days earlier.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – Iran’s foreign ministry on Tuesday “strongly” condemned recent “aggressive” actions by the US, accusing the Americans of violating an April ceasefire between the two sides.

“Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns these aggressive actions, which are a clear violation of Article 2, Paragraph 4, of the United Nations Charter, as well as the [April] ceasefire,” the ministry said, adding that Tehran holds Washington “responsible for all consequences resulting from these aggressive actions.”

The statement comes after the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it carried out “self-defense strikes” in Iran’s southern regions in the early hours of the day, despite the two warring sides reporting significant progress in their discussions days earlier.

Hours after the CENTCOM statement, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it detected and intercepted an MQ9 drone, an RQ4 drone, and an American F35 aggressor in its airspace the previous night.

The new aggressions came days after a breakthrough was reached between the two sides in the negotiations. US President Donald Trump’s said on Saturday that an agreement was “largely negotiated” with the Iranian side and awaited finalization, following a series of indirect negotiations through Pakistani mediators.

Earlier on Tuesday, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei said in an address on the occasion of the Hajj pilgrimage that “death to America and death to Israel” will remain the common slogans, adding that Washington will no longer have a safe haven for “evil” and establishing military bases in the Middle East region.

“The commission of these aggressive acts, simultaneously with the ongoing diplomatic process mediated by Pakistan, once again revealed the recklessness and lack of commitment of the US ruling body to the Iranian nation, the people of the region, and the international community,” the statement added.

The US-Israeli war on Iran began in late February, with Washington seeking to put an end to the Iranian nuclear program and set limits on the country’s missile capabilities.

Hostilities have largely halted since Iran and the US reached a fragile ceasefire agreement in early April, which was subsequently extended for an unknown period as the two sides continued working toward a permanent deal.
