ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - A senior Kataib Hezbollah official said Thursday reiterated that the pro-Iran militia will "not hand over a single bullet" to the Iraqi state amid a growing wave of armed factions agreeing to cooperate with Baghdad's agenda to restrict arms to state ownership.
“Resistance factions will not hand over a single bullet or gun,” senior Kataib Hezbollah official Abu Mujahid al-Assaf said in a message shared on his Telegram account.
In a statement issued on Eid al-Ghadir, Aasaf warned media figures and supporters against “falling into the trap of the American enemy,” which he said seeks to create division among Iraqis.
“We renew our warning to concerned brothers and media figures against falling into the trap of the American enemy, which is striving to stir up sedition among the people of one country,” he said.
The comments come as numerous pro-Iran armed factions haved acceded to Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi's efforts to restrict weapons to the Iraqi state, with groups including Asaib Ahl al-Haq (AAH) and Kataib al-Imam Ali having agreed to divorce themselves from the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) to this end.
However, several other groups have rejected the disarmament call, including Ashab al-Kahf, Harakat al-Nujaba and Saraya Awliya al-Dam.
Assaf said that the handover of weapons or the restructuring of forces is a matter related to the specific faction or group concerned, provided that the process is completed definitively and not repeated periodically.
He said some groups may seek to strengthen their position through integration within state institutions or through understandings with specific figures, while others may choose different paths.
Referring to groups that have handed over their weapons and headquarters, Assaf said they had not participated in the ranks of the Islamic resistance and had not been targeted by the United States “for a long time.”
He added that such decisions are not connected to the Islamic resistance, but said those groups should complete the handover process quickly and avoid listening to voices that could fuel discord.
“As for the factions of the Islamic resistance, including Kataib Hezbollah, they will remain cohesive and continue their duties,” he said.
