"The region risks sliding into a broader confrontation, which could carry serious consequences for both regional and international security," said the Iraqi foreign ministry.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - Iraq's foreign ministry on Thursday condemned attacks targeting the territories of Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait, coming after Iran launched strikes on US military bases in the Middle East as both sides trade barrages.

In a statement, the ministry condemned the attacks on the three countries and voiced “deep regret over the renewed escalation in the region,” warning that it could lead to “dangerous repercussions that threaten regional and international security and stability.”

The ministry said the current situation requires “greater efforts to contain tensions through dialogue and diplomacy rather than further escalation.”

Baghdad called on all parties to exercise restraint and intensify efforts to end the cycle of conflict, stressing the importance of relying on diplomatic channels and peaceful solutions to address ongoing crises.

The ministry also emphasized that the stability of Arab and neighboring countries is closely linked to Iraq's own security and stability.

Warning against a wider conflict, the ministry said “the region risks sliding into a broader confrontation, which could carry serious consequences for both regional and international security.”

It added that preserving balance and taking into account the strategic interests of all parties remain crucial to preventing further tensions and instability.

The statement comes after Iran claimed responsibility for attacks on US military bases in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan, as well as strikes on two vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, in response to renewed US attacks on targets inside Iran.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it targeted Bahrain's Sheikh Isa Air Base, Kuwait's Ali Al Salem and Ahmad al-Jaber airbases, and Jordan's al-Azraq Air Base.

Jordan said its air defenses intercepted missiles heading toward its territory, while Bahrain and Kuwait activated air defense measures.

Bahrain reported minor injuries and property damage caused by debris from intercepted drones.

Iran also declared the Strait of Hormuz closed and warned that vessels attempting to pass through the waterway could be targeted.

The attacks followed US strikes on multiple targets in Iran ordered by President Donald Trump, which Washington said were carried out in response to continued Iranian aggression.
