The Iranian foreign ministry strongly condemned the offensive in a statement hours later, dubbing it a “terrorist crime” and a “gross violation” of the April ceasefire between the US, Israel, and Iran.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – Iran on Sunday said that it holds the US directly responsible for Israel’s “violations” of the ceasefire agreement against Lebanon and Iran, following Israeli strikes on southern Beirut.

The Israeli military on Sunday targeted Beirut’s southern Dahieh suburbs, leaving at least three individuals killed and several others wounded, in the alleged retaliatory attack for Hezbollah’s earlier strikes on northern Israeli territory.

The Iranian foreign ministry strongly condemned the offensive in a statement hours later, dubbing it a “terrorist crime” and a “gross violation” of the April ceasefire between the US, Israel, and Iran.

The ministry highlighted the “direct responsibility of the US government for the crimes committed by the Zionist regime and the repeated violations of the ceasefire by that regime against Lebanon and Iran.”

Iran emphasized its determination to take “all necessary measures to exercise the inherent right of self-defense.”

Flights were suspended in western Iran hours following the escalation, according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency. Though there has not been any reports of Iran launching any strikes in retaliation for the Beirut attack as of writing this article

US President Donald Trump denounced the Israeli aggression in remarks on Truth Social, saying the attack “should not have happened, particularly on a special day when we are so close to a peace deal with Iran.”

The US president also told Axios that he had held a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following the attack on Beirut, during which he said he was “so pissed off.”

“He has no fucking judgement, I let him know that,” Trump told Axios journalist Barak Ravid, recounting the conversation with the Israeli premier.

Despite the escalation, Trump told US media earlier in the day that a peace deal with Tehran is set to be signed within hours. A deal has yet to be publicly announced however, as of this article’s publication.

Earlier in June, Israeli strikes on Lebanon’s capital led to an escalation of strikes between Iran and Israel, which was halted at Trump’s request, the Israeli military said at the time.
