“The continuation of these attacks constitutes a grave threat to regional peace and security and risks further destabilizing the entire region,” KRG said in a statement.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) on Friday condemned the “unjustified” Iranian attacks on the Kurdistan Region, urging Tehran to cease its attacks, while also calling on Baghdad and the international community to take a stance.

“The continuation of these attacks constitutes a grave threat to regional peace and security and risks further destabilizing the entire region,” KRG said in a statement.

Following renewed tensions between Iran and the United States, the Kurdistan Region is once again being targeted by airstrikes focused on US interests and the bases of Iranian Kurdish opposition groups.

At least nine members of the Komala of the Toilers of Kurdistan were killed in an Iranian missile attack on one of their bases in Sulaimani’s Zirgwezala.

Eight bomb-laden drones were intercepted over Erbil early Friday, after another eight projectiles were intercepted late Wednesday.

“We call on the Islamic Republic of Iran to immediately cease these attacks, respect the sovereignty and stability of the Kurdistan Region,” it added.

The Kurdistan Region Presidency also condemned the attacks earlier on Friday, calling them “a dangerous development and a flagrant violation of Iraqi sovereignty.”

In May, Tehran declared the Kurdistan Region a site of “hostile bases” under its security doctrine, warning that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had been given the same designation, making both subject to preemptive strikes.

That same month, an Iranian ballistic missile strike on a Peshmerga base in Erbil province's Soran administration killed at least six Peshmerga fighters and wounded 30 others. Kurdistan Region leaders strongly condemned the attack.
