ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - US President Donald Trump on Wednesday said that the American military will destroy "one bridge or power plant" in Iran every time the Islamic Republic targets a ship in the Strait of Hormuz.

"From this point forward, any time the Islamic Republic of Iran shoots at a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, whether it be by Missile, Rocket, Drone, or any other device or weapon, the United States will bomb and destroy ONE BRIDGE OR POWER PLANT, including those located next to, or in, the Capital City of Tehran," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The president's rhetoric comes amid increased US frustration with Iranian attacks on commercial transit in the strategic waterway, with such strikes having served as the casus belli that triggered renewed US bombardment of Iran and the rupture of their bilateral memorandum of understanding.

Iranian infrastructure has repeatedly been targeted by the US military, with the Bandar Khamir bridge in southern Iran's Hormozgan on July 17 resulting in the deaths of at least eight people, according to media affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). 

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that three "villagers" were killed in the strike, adding that "they were absolutely innocent, and we will never allow their blood to be in vain."

Similarly, the under-construction Darkhovin nuclear power plant was bombed by the US on Sunday, leading the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) to condemn what it termed the "silence and indifference" of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the matter.

Tehran has long accused the UN nuclear watchdog of bias, with an IAEA report in 2025 accusing Iran of failing to comply with nuclear regulations having heightened tensions in the immediate run-up to US-Israeli attacks in June of that year.

Trump on Tuesday also indicated that "we will absolutely attack" an alleged Iranian nuclear site in Natanz, coming on the back of a Wall Street Journal report asserting that Israeli intelligence believes Iran has moved thousands of uranium-enrichment centrifuges into tunnels deep inside a site dubbed Pickaxe Mountain.

"We will absolutely attack the new site that they’re talking about… Any site where they’re even thinking about nuclear, we’ll be hitting it very powerfully," said Trump during a meeting in the Oval Office with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.

"We’ll be hitting that area probably pretty soon, and there’s not a thing they can do about it."
