ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - At least three suicide drones were intercepted over Erbil in the early hours of Friday, in renewed attacks on the Kurdistan Region’s capital.

“In the early hours of today, Friday, August 14, 2026, between 02:17 and 02:25, the coalition forces shot down three bomb-laden drones in the Erbil sky,” read a statement from the Kurdistan Counterterrorism Service.

The attacks did not result in any casualties, the statement added.
 
The Kurdistan Region came under hundreds of drone and missile attacks by Iran and its Iraqi proxies from late February until Tehran and Washington signed a memorandum of understanding in mid-June.
 
The attacks resumed after hostilities between the US and Iran flared again on July 8, only 21 days after the agreement was signed.

Kurdistan Region Interior Minister Reber Ahmed said on Tuesday that they have now submitted a “comprehensive and detailed report” to the Iraqi federal government regarding the repeated attacks on the Region, adding that they are currently “awaiting the commencement of the compensation process,” after Baghdad said it would provide compensation to oil companies targeted in the Region if the attacks are proven to have come from Iraqi territory.
 
Drone and missile strikes have killed at least 32 people and injured 154 others across the Kurdistan Region since the US-Israel war with Iran began in late February, according to information obtained by The New Region.
