ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - The Kurdistan Region’s Counterterrorism said Wednesday that the US-led coalition intercepted 10 suicide drones over Erbil on Wednesday, without resulting in any casualties or injuries.

Several loud blasts were heard across Erbil well into the early hours of Wednesday, with defense system combating incoming Iranian missiles and drones, mostly around Erbil International Airport.

“Between 01:13 and 03:31, Coalition forces intercepted and shot down 10 bomb-laden drones within the airspace of Erbil province. Fortunately, there were no casualties,” the counterterrorism force said.

Two other drones fell in Duhok’s Akre district, damaging a house and farm, The New Region has learned.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) early Wednesday said it carried out “combined missile and drone attack on American bases in Erbil, destroying a repair center and warehouses of technical equipment of the terrorist American army and destroying the guidance system of the American spy balloon in the base.”

It further claimed that its “ground force” had set fire to the fuel tanks at the base and “killed a number of invaders.”

The Iranian attacks came as part of a broader retaliatory wave which also included Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait, following US strikes on IRGC targets in southern and southwestern Iran.

According to official Iranian military and government statements, the US bombardment on Tuesday also struck a wedding ceremony in the city of Sirik in Hormozgan province, killing at least four people, including a child, and wounding around 70 others.

In a statement addressing the people of the Kurdistan Region, the IRGC said “the time has come for the end of the heinous and barbaric American regime.”

The Kurdistan Region has long insisted upon its neutrality in the broader regional conflict and repeatedly condemned Iranian strikes.

Tehran in May declared the Kurdistan Region a site of “hostile bases” under its security doctrine, making the Region a subject to preemptive strikes.
