ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - The United Arab Emirates on Wednesday condemned "in the strongest terms" recent Iranian attacks on the Kurdistan Region, Bahran, Kuwait, and Jordan, expressing its support for all measures taken to safeguard their security and stability.

The denunciation comes after Iran retaliated to US airstrikes on Tuesday night with a series of missile and drone attacks targeting US interests across the region. The Kurdistan Region's Counterterrorism Unit announced that 10 suicide drone were downed over Erbil during the wave of bombardment, with no casualties having been incurred. 

Two other drones fell in Duhok’s Akre district, damaging a house and farm, The New Region learned.

Similiarly, the responsible authorities in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain announced that their forces had responded to incoming projectiles, with Amman announced that ten of 13 ballistic missiles were downed by air defense systems, while the remaining three fell in remote areas away from major population centers.

"The United Arab Emirates has condemned in the strongest terms the hostile attacks by Iran targeting the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Kuwait, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, with missiles and drones," the Emirati foreign ministry said in a statement.

"These hostile attacks constitute a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the brotherly nations and a threat to their security and stability," the ministry continued, vowing the UAE's "full solidarity" with the aforementioned states and its "support for all measures aimed at safeguarding their security and stability."

The Emirati solidarity comes in the immediate aftermath of a visit by Kurdistan Region Prime Minsiter Masrour Barzani to Abu Dhabi on Tuesday in which he met with Emirati President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

"During the meeting, both sides condemned the recent attacks on the UAE and stressed the importance of protecting the region's security and stability," read a statement from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

Both the Kurdistan Region and the UAE suffered greatly during the US-Israeli war with Iran, coming under incessant bombardment from Iran and its aligned proxies after being designated as "hostile bases" under Tehran's security doctrine. 

The Emirati consulate in Erbil, first opened in 2012, was targeted multiple times in March, drawing sharp criticism and vows of solidarity from the Kurdistan Region's leadership. 

During Barzani's premiership, Erbil has enjoyed increasingly close ties with Abu Dhabi, leading to enhanced cooperation in a number of technological and development initiatives.
