“A short while ago, the Azadi camp of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran was targeted by a drone launched by the Islamic Republic,” KDPI said in a statement late Wednesday, confirming that the attack caused no casualties.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – The Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI), an Iranian Kurdish opposition group, said late Wednesday that their Azadi camp in Erbil province’s Koya was targeted by drone attacks, causing no casualties, marking the second wave of attacks targeting the group in the same week.

Late Wednesday, a loud explosion was heard in the town of Koya in Erbil province at around 9 pm, with Kurdish security forces later confirming that a drone strike targeted the Azadi camp, which reportedly houses members of the KDPI and their families.

“A short while ago, the Azadi camp of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran was targeted by a drone launched by the Islamic Republic,” KDPI said in a statement late Wednesday, confirming that the attack caused no casualties.

KDPI described the attacks as the “second wave of drone attacks” targeting the opposition group in the same week, which it claimed were carried out by Tehran.

The attacks come following the official withdrawal of the US-led global coalition in Iraq in accordance with an agreement between Washington and Baghdad, coming after years of cooperation between the coalition and Iraqi and Kurdish forces in the fight against the Islamic State (ISIS).

Last week, three drone strikes targeted Erbil’s Soran administration, injuring at least one person, with the projectiles landing in a residential area and prompting a swift response from civil defense teams.

The Kurdistan Region has been targeted by hundreds of drone and missile strikes since the outbreak of the US-Israeli war on Iran in February. Despite the warring parties having significantly wound down their attacks, the Region continues to be targeted.

“More than 164 missiles and drones” have targeted KDPI bases and headquarters since the outbreak of the February war, the group said.

In early September, the Kurdistan Region’s counterterrorism forces said that the US-led coalition intercepted 10 suicide drones over Erbil, without resulting in any casualties or injuries. Two other drones fell in Duhok’s Akre district, damaging a house and a farm.

Soon after, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) took responsibility for the attack.

In late August, a suspected drone targeted the Soran administration in Erbil province, with the blast sparking a fire in a mountainous area.
