ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – The Iranian opposition Komala of the Toilers of Kurdistan (Zahmatkeshan) said Wednesday its Erbil base was targeted with two Iranian suicide drones, reporting no casualties.
“As part of the ongoing terrorist attacks by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of the Islamic Republic, one of Komala’s headquarters in the Alana Valley in the Balisan area was targeted by two bomb-laden drones,” the group said in a statement.
The attack caused no casualties, the party said, citing only “minor material damage.”
Another senior party member confirmed the attack to The New Region on Wednesday, saying the strike took place around 8:30 am.
In late October, the group was also targeted with a drone attack in one of its camps in Erbil's Soran administration, resulting in material damage and no casualties.
A week before that, the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan (Shorshger) was targeted in a drone attack in Erbil.
Footage received by The New Region indicates that, also on early Wednesday, a house in Halabja province's Tawella was targeted in a suspected drone attack with no casualties reported. No official statement has been made regarding the attack on Halabja yet.
The Kurdistan Region has repeatedly come under Iranian attacks following renewed hostilities between Tehran and Washington, with strikes focusing on US interests and bases of Iranian Kurdish opposition groups.
Erbil has long insisted upon its neutrality in the broader regional conflict and repeatedly condemned Iranian strikes.
Tehran in May declared the Kurdistan Region a site of “hostile bases” under its security doctrine, making the Region subject to preemptive strikes.
A missile strike targeting a Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan base in Sulaimani's Zirgwezala area in the Tanjaro subdistrict killed at least 10 people in July, marking the deadliest attack on the Kurdistan Region since the start of the US-Israel war with Iran.
