Turkey and Iraq will hold their fourth "High Level Security Mechanism" meeting in Turkey next week, following a recent Baghdad summit where they formed joint committees on security, trade, and other key areas.

Turkey and Iraq will convene the fourth meeting of their "High Level Security Mechanism" in Turkey next week, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced.

This meeting follows a recent surge in diplomatic engagement between the two nations, highlighted by a significant security summit in Baghdad and a series of new bilateral agreements.

The Baghdad summit resulted in the formation of permanent joint committees focused on key areas such as security, trade, agriculture, energy, and health.

Both countries reiterated their commitment to combating the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which they recognize as a mutual security threat.

These discussions, a continuation of earlier talks held in Ankara, aim to enhance cooperation on regional challenges and counter-terrorism efforts.

In a related development, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani has ordered the formation of a committee to oversee the implementation of a water cooperation agreement with Turkey, one of the 24 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed during President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s recent visit to Iraq.

Sudani emphasized the need for continuous communication with Turkey to ensure timely execution of the agreements.

He directed each involved ministry to develop a clear action plan under his direct supervision, with a particular focus on strategic water projects that will benefit Iraq’s agricultural and water sectors in the long term.

The Iraqi prime minister also stressed the importance of forming joint committees across various ministries to monitor the implementation of cooperation measures in other vital fields. This coordinated approach aims to strengthen bilateral relations and advance the interests of both nations.

The upcoming security meeting in Turkey is expected to build on these developments, focusing on the practical implementation of the agreements and the strategic framework established during recent discussions.
