The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Thursday announced that one of its military advisors, Ahmad Reza Afshari, had died from injuries sustained in an airstrike in Syria. 

According to the IRGC, Afshari was injured in an airstrike by the US-led Global Coalition at the end of July. He was transferred to Iran for treatment and died on Thursday.

IRGC Commander Hossein Salami stated that “Afshari, a member of the IRGC Aerospace Forces advisory unit in Syria, had succumbed to his injuries despite medical care in Iran.”

In contrast, the UK- based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) and other media outlets reported that Afshari was injured in an Israeli airstrike on August 8. 

The strike had reportedly targeted a missile depot located about 5 kilometers from Shuairat Airport in Homs countryside in Syria.

SOHR noted that the airstrike caused explosions and fires, injuring seven individuals, including three from Iran backed groups and other members of Syrian governmental forces.
