The Iraqi Federal Intelligence and Investigations Agency has dismantled an ISIS network in Kirkuk, arresting three suspects who admitted to various terrorist activities.

The Iraqi Federal Intelligence and Investigations Agency on Sunday said they had dismantled an ISIS network operating in Kirkuk province, resulting in the arrest of three suspects linked to the extremist group.

The operation followed critical intelligence obtained by a specialized counterterrorism units, which identified the network's presence in the area.

During questioning, the suspects confessed to participating in various terrorist activities in the region, including the assassination of security personnel, read a statement from the Intelligence agency, adding that their confessions have been officially recorded, and they have been referred to judicial authorities for prosecution.

On Thursday, Iraqi security forces arrested a suspected ISIS member during a preemptive search operation in southern Baghdad.

The suspect was apprehended by the Federal Police's Mechanized Brigade in the Hor Rajab area of the Dora district.

This operation was part of heightened security measures for the Arbaeen pilgrimage and efforts to locate remnants of the defeated terrorist organization.

The arrest followed a similar operation on Wednesday, which resulted in the detention of another ISIS member involved in a bombing incident.

ISIS took control of swathes of Iraqi territory in 2014, announcing their so-called caliphate with the city of Mosul as its capital, until Iraqi and Kurdish forces, with assistance from the US-led coalition forces regained control of the taken territories in 2017, announcing the group as territorially defeated.

However, the group still conducts occasional hit-and-run attacks and ambushes in several Iraqi territories, specifically areas disputed between Erbil and Baghdad.
