Israeli airstrikes on Syria’s central region have killed at least 14 people including civilians and injured 43 others, according to Syrian state media. The strikes targeted military sites, including a weapons research facility believed to be used by Iranian forces.

DUBAI, UAE - Israeli airstrikes hit multiple military sites in western Syria late Sunday, including areas in Masyaf and off the coast of Baniyas, in what marked the fourth wave of attacks in less than three hours.

The strikes targeted Syrian government forces and Iranian military experts, destroying buildings and military centers near Masyaf.

Syrian state media SANA reported Monday that Israeli airstrikes in the Masyaf region of western Syria have killed at least 14 people and wounded at least 43 others, with several in critical condition.

The strikes, which took place Sunday night, targeted military sites and a weapons research facility believed to be used by Iranian forces and their allies, according to Israeli media.

The Times of Israel reported that the Israeli Air Force hit a facility linked to the Scientific Studies and Research Center (SSRC), which Israel claims is used for developing precision-guided surface-to-surface missiles by Iranian forces.

The Syrian Ministry of Information announced that air defenses responded to "an attack targeting several points in the central region of the country." Syrian state media reported that Israel "launched about 15 airstrikes on the central region."

Footage shared online showed the moment a missile struck near the SSRC site in the al-Zawi area, sparking fires. Local Syrian media also reported significant damage to civilian property and the electrical grid along the Masyaf-Wadi al-Oyoun road.

A Syrian military source stated that the airstrikes were launched from the direction of northwestern Lebanon.

Earlier reports indicated that five civilians had been killed, but the death toll rose to 14 by Monday morning, according to Faisal Haidar, director of the National Hospital in Masyaf.
