Security forces have launched an investigation into a bomb explosion near a currency exchange office in Kirkuk which injured at least four people. The circumstances surrounding the blast “imply” the incident could have been the result of a feud, the police said.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - At least four people were injured as a result of a bomb explosion in southeast Kirkuk on Saturday, the police told The New Region noting that investigations into the incident are underway.

The blast occurred in front of a currency exchange office in the Turkmen-majority neighborhood of Musalla on Saturday morning. The owner of the place is reportedly a member of a local Turkmen party.

“It is yet unclear if this was a terrorist attack or due to a feud,” Amr Nuri, spokesperson for Kirkuk police, told the New Region. “We have been informed by health authorities that four people were wounded.”

“The owner has unfortunately lost one of his legs,” he added.

The police spokesperson said that they do not have any suspects at the moment, but noted that the nature of the incident carries certain “implications”.

“The placement of the bomb and in that manner has certain implications. We will continue our investigations and await the ruling of the specialized judge,” said Nuri.

In a statement on Saturday, Kirkuk’s Turkmen Front said that they condemn the bomb explosion in Musalla neighborhood, labeling it a "terrorist" attack.
