Basra Governor election

Basra’s provincial council on Monday held its first meeting since the country held elections in December. Heavy military presence was spotted outside Basra’s provincial council building as the session to elect governor started. Incumbent Governor Ass’ad al-Idani is expected to gain majority of the votes in the council and be re-elected as governor.
