The Iraqi Council of Ministers have selected November 11 to be the date for the country's parliamentary elections set to be held this year, with the decision coming soon after the Coordination Framework insisted that elections be held on time

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - The Iraqi Council of Ministers on Wednesday voted to set November 11 as the date for holding parliamentary elections.

The decision came two days after the ruling Iraqi Coordination Framework emphasized the need to hold legislative elections on time, asserting that no party should be permitted to postpone them.

Parliamentary elections will establish the sixth term of the Iraqi legislature.

More than 29 million people are estimated to be eligible to participate in the vote.

Iraq’s elections body announced in late March that it would begin the voter registry process, which was set to last for one month.

“The electoral commission is ready to conduct elections at the set date,” Jumana al-Ghalai, spokesperson of the Iraqi electoral body, told The New Region.
