Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei lashed out at ongoing dialogue between Damascus and Tel Aviv seeking to mend discord, dubbing such diplomatic engagements by Israel to be "signs of weakness" and calling on "the whole world" to oppose its campaign in Gaza.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday said that the progress in talks between Syria and Israel is a sign of the Zionist regime’s weakness, urging Muslim nations to not let the Palestinian issue be forgotten.

During a joint presser with France’s Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Wednesday, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa confirmed that Damascus is engaged in indirect talks with Israel to ease tensions stoked by repeated Israeli strikes and incursions into Syrian territory.

“What we are witnessing now, some actions, some advances in Syria or elsewhere, are not signs of strength, but rather signs of weakness, and God willing, they will lead to further weakness,” said Khamenei during a speech to thousands of workers in Tehran on the occasion of labor week.

The Iranian supreme leader stated that the people of Gaza are not only facing oppression from Israel but also from the United States and the United Kingdom, who are strengthening the Zionist regime through the provision of weapons and facilities.

“An attempt is being made to forget issues related to Palestine. Muslim nations should not allow this… The crime that the Zionist regime is committing in Gaza, in Palestine, is not something that can be ignored. The whole world must stand against it. They must stand against both the Zionist regime itself and the supporters of the Zionist regime,” Khamenei added.

In addition to continued attacks on the Gaza Strip, Israel has launched hundreds of strikes against Syria since the ouster of Bashar al-Assad in December.

Last week, the Israeli military launched airstrikes near the Syrian presidential palace in Damascus after Defense Minister Israel Katz threatened Syria with force should they continue targeting the country’s minority Druze community.
