Members of the Yazidi community have gathered at Lalish to mark the start of the Jama feast, a seven-day-long religious festival at the holy temple signaling the start of the fall season.
The Yazidi community has been subjected to countless atrocities throughout their history, but members of the minority group have managed to preserve their faith and culture through the celebration of their traditional holidays, commemorating each occasion in accordance with their religious rituals and customs.
During Jama, also known as the Gathering and Feast of Seven Days, members of the ethnoreligious community undertake a pilgrimage to the holy site to symbolize the unity of their people.
Throughout the week-long pilgrimage, the attendees participate in ritual dances, play religious music, and offer sacrifices and prayers for rain during the winter season and a fruitful spring.
