"Now, holders of the new digital driving license can see the electronic copy of their license on that application. All details of the driving license and a digital copy have become available to drivers," the KRG said in a Wednesday announcement.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – The Kurdistan Region's interior ministry on Wednesday announced that citizens can now submit a digital version of their driver's license through the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) KRDPass application.

"Now, holders of the new digital driving license can see the electronic copy of their license on that application. All details of the driving license and a digital copy have become available to drivers," the ministry said in a Wednesday announcement.

The launch comes "within the framework of the continuous efforts of the Kurdistan Regional Government [KRG] to digitize services for citizens," the statement added, along with a set of instructions to update the application, and view the newly-added license feature in the program's wallet section.

KRDPass is an application that was launched by the KRG in late July, which aims to digitalize government services and bureaucratic paperwork submissions. In addition to driver's licenses, the app currently includes vehicle registration information for the provinces of Erbil and Duhok, and promises to add the feature for Sulaimani "soon."

It also stores personal identity information, enterprise ownership, among an array of other features that are set to be rolled out in the future.

"From now on, if you do not have your new driving license with you, at the time of seeing traffic police patrols, you can show the digital copy of your license on the mentioned application and pass without problem," the ministry explained.

Digitalizing the Kurdistan Region’s affairs has been one of the key goals of the KRG’s ninth cabinet under Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.

In addition to KRD Pass, the government has also moved to modernize the method by which civil servants receive their salaries through the MyAccount initiative, enhancing financial stability and granting beneficiaries access to a diverse array of financial services, including savings accounts.

Earlier in February, the KRG also announced e-Psule, a payment platform that will allow citizens to pay their bills electronically through several participating banks and wallets.

The New Region has learned that KRDPass is set to be upgraded to include more services in the future, with future integration with MyAccount and personal credit cards. It is currently integrated with the e-Psule platform to allow users to pay electricity dues in a cashless system.
