ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – At least one fighter was injured in Iranian drone strikes on Kurdish opposition parties in separate areas of the Kurdistan Region’s Erbil province on Friday, an opposition group said.
The Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI), a prominent Kurdish opposition group, said “one Peshmerga is lightly injured” following Iranian drone strikes on their positions in Erbil’s Degala subdistrict. The group’s Azadi base in Koya district was also targeted.
The Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK), another Kurdish opposition group, said its fighters were also targeted by Iranian drones in Degala, without disclosing casualties at the time of writing this report.
The New Region has learned that Koya was struck at least five times.
Bases of Kurdish opposition groups in the Kurdistan Region have repeatedly come under attack over the past week, since the US and Israel launched a major offensive against Iran.
Earlier in February, Kurdish opposition groups from western Iran (Rojhelat) formed a joint coalition aimed at toppling the Iranian government, with the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan announcing on Wednesday it had joined the alliance, bringing the total number of groups in the coalition to six.
On Thursday, US President Donald Trump said that he fully supports Iranian Kurdish opposition groups launching a military offensive against Iran, saying that he cannot say if the US would be willing to provide air cover should such a campaign begin.
