DUBAI, UAE - Several Gulf countries reported intercepting Iranian missiles and drones early Monday, while Bahrain said at least 32 people were injured after a drone strike.
Bahrain’s Health Ministry said 32 citizens were injured, including children, after what officials described as a hostile Iranian drone attack that struck the Sitra area. Four of the injured were in critical condition and required surgical intervention.
Later on Monday, Bahrain’s National Communication Center said a fire broke out after an Iranian attack targeted a facility in the Ma’amir area, causing material damage but no reported casualties. Fire crews were deployed to contain the blaze.
In Qatar, the defense ministry said its armed forces intercepted missile attacks targeting the country. Officials did not report casualties or damage.
Kuwait’s army said its air defenses were responding to missile and drone attacks that had entered the country’s airspace.
The General Staff said explosions heard by residents were the result of interception operations and urged the public to follow safety instructions.
Saudi Arabia’s defense ministry said its forces intercepted and destroyed several drones, including aircraft heading toward the Shaybah oil field in the Empty Quarter and another drone east of the al-Jawf region.
In a statement by the foreign ministry, Riyadh reiterated its “unequivocal condemnation of the heinous Iranian attacks,” stating that: “Attacking civilian targets, airports, and oil installations only demonstrates a persistent threat to security and stability and a blatant violation of international conventions and international law.”
Saudi Arabia warned that “continued Iranian attacks signify further escalation and will have a profound impact on relations, both now and in the future.“
In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the defense ministry said air defense systems were responding to incoming missile and drone threats from Iran, explaining that sounds heard by residents were the result of interception operations.
In the wake of the US-Israeli strikes on Iran and the killing of the country’s leader Ali Khamenei in late February, Iran has launched a retaliatory campaign targeting American bases and facilities across the region.
The Iranian operations have been widely condemned by regional states, despite Tehran repeatedly claiming the attacks are not targeting the countries, but rather the US bases and facilities hosted there, which Iran views as an extension of US territory.
