“From the beginning of the outbreak of war between Iran, Israel, and the US in the region until now, more than 200 explosive drones have been directed at Erbil city,” Khoshnaw told The New Region.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – Over 200 drones have targeted the Kurdistan Region’s capital of Erbil since the US-Israeli war on Iran began, Governor Omed Khoshnaw said on Wednesday, as air defenses continued intercepting drones overnight.

The Kurdistan Region has been repeatedly targeted since the start of the war by both the Iranian military and pro-Iran militia groups inside Iraq, who cite the presence of US military bases as their rationale.

“From the beginning of the outbreak of war between Iran, Israel, and the US in the region until now, more than 200 explosive drones have been directed at Erbil city,” Khoshnaw told The New Region.

He said that the “majority of the drones” have been intercepted by the US air defense system in the city.

“Despite the interception of most drones, the danger of attacks continues, and relevant authorities stand ready to protect citizens’ lives,” the governor asserted.

A barrage of drones targeted Erbil on Tuesday and the early hours of Wednesday, crashing on the outskirts of the city after being intercepted by the air defense system.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) on Tuesday called on Baghdad to prevent “outlaw extremist groups” from targeting the Kurdistan Region, after a drone struck the Emirati Consulate General in Erbil.

Groups operating under the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella of pro-Iran armed factions within Iraq, have claimed responsibility for many of the attacks on Erbil.
