ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – The Shalamcheh border crossing in Khuzestan, a major land link between Iran and Iraq, was targeted Saturday, killing an Iraqi citizen and injuring several others, an Iraqi official said, with all activity being halted at the crossing following the incident.
Iranian state media, citing a senior official from the Khuzestan governor’s office, reported Saturday that “the Shalamcheh border trade terminal in Khorramshahr was attacked” in what he described as a US-Israeli strike, causing “serious damage,” according to IRNA.
Head of Iraq's Border Ports Authority Lieutenant General Omar al-Waeli said one person was killed and five others were injured as a result of the strike, which reportedly occurred around 11 am Saturday.
The Shalamcheh border is a major crossing between Iran and Iraq's Basra province, serving as a key point for trade, travel, and security operations along the shared frontier.
The footage circulating on social media shows the commercial facilities at Shalamcheh severely damaged, and some reports claim that pro‑Iranian Iraqi militia fighters were crossing the border at the time of the attack, though these details have not been independently verified.

Aqeel al‑Fariji, head of the Basra border crossings committee, said an Iraqi citizen was killed on the Iranian side and several others were injured in the attack.
He noted that operations at the Shalamcheh border crossing with Iran are fully suspended for the time being.
Earlier on Saturday, a strike near the Iraq-Syria border killed a fighter from Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), coming after the US previously blamed Baghdad for not disclosing where its conventional forces are co-located at PMF sites.
In late March, reports and social media footage suggested that convoys of PMF were entering Iran, with some saying the militia units had crossed into Iranian territory allegedly to provide support.
The PMF, officially under the auspices of the Iraqi state, contains pro-Iran factions that have repeatedly targeted US interests in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq since the beginning of a US-Israeli military campaign against Iran in late February.
Several other attacks occurred in the province, including an assault on the Bushehr power plant that killed one worker and injured several others, IRNA reported.
