ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Monday confirmed the killing of its intelligence chief Majid Khademi in a US-Israeli attack, as top Iranian officials continue to be targeted.
“Major General Majid Khademi, the powerful and educated head of the Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, was martyred in the criminal terrorist attack by the American-Zionist enemy... at dawn today,” the IRGC said in a statement.
Since the US-Israel war with Iran started in late February, many top Iranian leaders and officials have been killed, including late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Larijani, and the commander of the Basij unit of the IRGC Gholamreza Soleimani.
There are also unconfirmed reports that the newly appointed Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has suffered injuries in an airstrike.
As the war rages through its second month with daily strikes on Iran and its retaliatory strikes across the region, it remains unclear whether Tehran and Washington will reach a deal and end the hostilities any time soon.
The IRGC on Thursday vowed to continue the war against the US and Israel, saying the country’s advanced defense capabilities remain intact and secure, after US President Donald Trump threatened to bomb Iran “back to the Stone Ages.”
Iran has also closed the Strait of Hormuz – a key waterway responsible for roughly 20 percent of the world’s oil – as a means in its war against the US and Israel, sharply driving up oil prices around the world.
Trump has given Tehran until Tuesday to open the strait, warning that it “will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran,” if it fails to comply.
"You'll be living in hell - JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Sunday.
