ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – Iran's foreign ministry said on Sunday that the US has responded to Tehran's proposal through Pakistani mediators, adding that the reply is currently under review, hours after US President Donald Trump said he doubts the plan would be acceptable.
“Americans have given the Pakistani side a response to Iran's 14-point plan and we are reviewing it,” Iran's state broadcaster reported, citing foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei.
Iran sent a 14-point proposal on Saturday, according to the semi-official Iranian Fars News agency, which said that it was in response to a proposal by the US and that the exchange of messages had continued through Pakistani mediators.
In a Saturday post on Truth Social, Trump said that he will be reviewing Iran’s plan, “but can't imagine that it would be acceptable in that they have not yet paid a big enough price for what they have done to Humanity, and the World, over the last 47 years.”
Baghaei said the plan is “exclusively focused on ending the war,” stressing that the nuclear issue had “absolutely no place” in its clauses. “There is no nuclear issue in Iran's plan to end the war,” he said.
He also dismissed reports that Iran had agreed to clear sea mines at the strategic Strait of Hormuz, calling them “media fiction.”
The development came after Trump’s rejection of an earlier proposal on Friday, saying he was “not satisfied” with it and prefers a diplomatic settlement as opposed to military action "on a human basis."
Negotiations between Washington and Tehran have remained at an apparent deadlock since a ceasefire took hold weeks ago, with no clear timeline for when face-to-face talks might resume.
