ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – The Iranian army on Tuesday warned that it will “open new fronts” against the United States should the American army resume the offensive against the Islamic republic, a day after US President Donald Trump said he held off a planned attack.
“If the enemy is foolish enough and falls into the Zionist trap with new aggressions against our beloved Iran, we will open new fronts with new equipment and new methods against it,” said Mohammad Akraminia, spokesperson for the Iranian army, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.
On Monday, Trump announced that he was postponing a planned attack on Iran scheduled for Tuesday at the request of Gulf leaders, namely Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The American president explained that “serious negotiations are now taking place, and that, in their opinion … a Deal will be made,” referring to the Gulf leaders. “The Deal will include, importantly, NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS FOR IRAN!”
Washington and Tehran agreed on an initial two-week ceasefire on April 8, and it has been extended for several weeks beyond its deadline.
According to Akraminia, the Iranian army has strengthened its “combat capabilities” during that time, using the ceasefire as an opportunity to do so.
“The enemy must respect the Iranian nation and the legitimate rights of the Islamic republic. It is the only way,” Akraminia asserted, adding that Tehran maintains control over the vital Strait of Hormuz.
On Tuesday, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi described US President Donald Trump's recent remarks of calling off attacks on Iran as calling a "threat" an "opportunity for peace"
"Iran is united and resolutely ready to confront any military aggression. For us, surrender means nothing; we either win or become a martyr," Gharibabadi said on X
Numerous proposals exchanged between the US and Iran in an effort to end the war have yielded no results.
On Monday, US officials told Axios that Iran’s Sunday proposal for a peace deal – sent through Pakistani mediators – is “insufficient” for an agreement. A senior official noted that if Tehran does not engage in “real” dialogue about its nuclear program with the US, “we will have a conversation through bombs, which will be a shame.”
While announcing that he had called off the planned strikes on Iran, Trump stressed that he has alerted US defense authorities to prepare for “a full, large-scale assault of Iran, on a moment’s notice, in the event that an acceptable Deal is not reached.”
