DUBAI, UAE - Lebanon’s parliament on Monday decided to ban all security or military activities by Hezbollah and limit the group’s role to political work only, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said.
Salam said the decision aims to strengthen state authority and prevent armed activity outside the control of the government.
In a separate statement earlier in the day, Salam condemned the recent firing of rockets from southern Lebanon, calling it “an irresponsible and suspicious act” regardless of who was behind it.
He said such actions endanger Lebanon’s security and safety and give Israel pretext to continue its attacks.
“We will not allow dragging the country into new adventures,” Salam wrote on X. He added that authorities will take all necessary measures to stop the perpetrators and protect the Lebanese people.
Footage circulated on social media showed a rocket being launched from southern Lebanon toward northern Israel early Monday morning.
Hezbollah later issued a statement claiming responsibility for the attack.
The Iran-backed group described the strike as “a legitimate act of self-defense,” and said those responsible should put an end to what it called “Israeli-American aggression against Lebanon.”
The Israeli military later in the day announced it has completed a wave of strikes throughout Lebanon in response to the Hezbollah attack, striking senior members of the group and dozens of Hezbollah and Iranian regime command centers in the Dahieh area in Beirut.
